Abstract

MR imaging plays a critical role in evaluating elbow ligament pathologies and associated instability and impingement syndromes. The article details standard and advanced elbow MR imaging techniques and highlights the normal anatomy of the medial and lateral elbow ligament complexes. High-field strength magnets, dedicated surface coils, optimized patient positioning, three-dimensional imaging, and deep learning reconstructions enhance visualization of ligament structure and integrity. These measures facilitate assessment of conditions such as valgus extension overload, posteromedial and radiocapitellar impingement, and posterolateral rotatory instability syndrome. Recognition of both primary ligament injury and secondary joint changes enables precise diagnosis and guides targeted management.
