Abstract

Complete denture restoration, as a major treatment for reconstructing masticatory function and restoring facial esthetics in patients with edentulism, has long been constrained by challenges inherent in traditional workflows, including reliance on experience, insufficient accuracy, and prolonged treatment periods. With the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in stomatology, complete denture restoration is undergoing a fundamental transformation from experience-driven to data-driven approaches. This article systematically reviews the application of AI in driving the smart transformation of complete dentures, and presents the current application status of AI technologies throughout the entire process of complete denture restoration, including data acquirement, denture design, denture fabrication and processing, as well as post-insertion evaluation and follow-up. Although AI has significantly improved restoration accuracy, efficiency, and patient satisfaction, challenges remain, such as insufficient data standardization and limited model generalizability. Future efforts require multidisciplinary collaboration to address these challenges, promote deeper integration of AI with stomatology, and advance complete denture restoration toward a more precise, efficient, and personalized new stage.
