Abstract
The widespread use of Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools (GAIT) has fundamentally transformed modern design workflows. Building on Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this research elucidates the dual-path mechanisms by which designers' receptivity toward GAIT affects their self-perceived creativity. Through a structured survey of 380 designers with GAIT usage experience, we demonstrate that GAIT receptivity indirectly enhances self-perceived creativity via two mediating pathways: the Resource Protection Path through cognitive load reduction and the Resource Investment Path via increased cognitive engagement. Crucially, these effects are asymmetrically moderated by technophobia levels. The study makes three theoretical contributions: extending COR theory to AI- assisted design contexts, formulating a dual-path cognitive model, and advancing human-AI collaboration frameworks. Practically, we propose organizational strategies for GAIT implementation and a competency-based training matrix for design professionals. These insights can inform the structured development of collaboration between designers and AI.
