Abstract
This special article represents the eighth installment in an annual Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia series highlighting key advances in cardiac electrophysiology relevant to cardiothoracic anesthesiologists. The authors extend their gratitude to Editor-in-Chief Dr. Kaplan, Associate Editor-in-Chief Dr. Augoustides, and the editorial board for the opportunity to contribute to this series. Rapid innovations in electrophysiology continue to reshape perioperative care and expand the anesthesiologist's role. This 2025 update synthesizes developments in atrial fibrillation guidelines across major societies, emerging cardiac implantable electronic device technologies, and evolving evidence in pulsed field ablation, transcatheter left atrial appendage occlusion, and stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation. Advances in wearable technologies and artificial intelligence are also highlighted. Collectively, these developments underscore the anesthesiologist's integral role within the multidisciplinary electrophysiology team.
