Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are rapidly transforming how people create and experience sexual content, including the emergence of AI-generated pornography (AI-porn). Yet little is known about who is engaging with this evolving medium. This study presents findings from a cross-sectional survey (data collected in 2025) of 367 heterosexual Australian adults (age range = 19-87 years, M = 39.07, SD = 13.43; 52.5% men, 44.8% women [and 2.2% non-binary, excluded from inferential analyses due to small cell sizes]) examining demographic, ideological, and relational correlates of AI-porn familiarity and use. Overall, 26.0% of participants reported having used AI-porn and were moderately familiar with it. Regression analyses showed that men and younger participants were significantly more likely to be familiar with and to have used AI-porn. Ideological factors (religiosity, political orientation) and relational factors (relationship status, relationship and sexual satisfaction) were not associated with use. These findings suggest that engagement with AI-porn is emerging most prominently among digitally curious younger men, yet appears ideologically broad and not linked (in this data set) to relationship dissatisfaction. As AI tools enable new forms of personalized, creative sexual expression, understanding who is exploring these technologies can help researchers and clinicians track evolving norms around intimacy, fantasy, and sexual media in the digital age.
