Latest AI and machine learning research in thoracic surgery for healthcare professionals.
OBJECTIVES: Lobectomy may unnecessarily resect healthy lung parenchyma in Stage 1A non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). Segmentectomies may provide a lung-sparing option. VATS segmentectomies can be technically challenging; robotics may have features that provide advantages in performing segmentectomies. We describe the association of the robot on national trends in segmentectomies.
Robot-assisted minimal access surgery (MAS), compared with conventional MAS, has shown a number of benefits across several therapeutic indications but its use for transthoracic esophagectomy (TTE) requires further evaluation. Here, we report the first-in-human series of major esophageal resections performed using a next-generation tele-operated robotic surgical system in a single center. Robot-ass...
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the perioperative outcomes of patients undergoing robot-assisted McKeown esophagectomy (RAME) and the learnin...
The standard of care for esophageal malignancies has evolved over the years from open transthoracic esophagectomy to a minimally invasive approach due...
BACKGROUND: Evidence on the added value of robotic-assistance in the abdominal phase during esophagectomy is scarce. In 2003, our center implemented t...
The trend towards performing robotic-assisted operations in thoracic surgery has been increasing in the last decade. The well-known advantages of vide...
PURPOSE: The accuracy of lymph node (LN) dissection in robotic surgery for lung cancer remains controversial. We compared the accuracy of LN dissectio...
PURPOSE: Minimally invasive en-bloc esophagectomy is associated with a reduction of postoperative morbidity. This was demonstrated for both total mini...
Indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) allows for real-time intraoperative assessment of the perfusion of the gastric conduit during esop...
Esophagectomy is the gold standard for the treatment of resectable esophageal cancer. Traditionally, it is performed through a laparotomy and a thorac...
We aim to review the available literature on patients with esophageal cancer treated with robot-assisted (RAME) or video-assisted McKeown's esophagect...
BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted lobectomy has been used to treat non-small cell lung cancer and usually uses 3 or 4 ports and 3 or 4 robotic arms. We recen...
BACKGROUND: High-grade adenocarcinoma subtypes (micropapillary and solid) treated with sublobar resection have an unfavorable prognosis compared with ...
BACKGROUND: Although a number of robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) procedures have been performed due to three-dimensional field...
Deep learning-based convolutional neural networks have enabled major advances in development of artificial intelligence (AI) software applications. M...
A major challenge in treating superior sulcus tumors is achieving complete surgical resection because of technical difficulties associated with the an...
BACKGROUND: The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Predicted Risk of Mortality (STS-PROM) estimates mortality risk only for certain common procedures (eg, c...
BACKGROUND: In this matched-cohort study, we investigated the short-term outcome of robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) compared w...
Minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) reduces mortality and morbidity related to esophageal surgery, but a long learning curve is necessary due to th...
